Having worked as a systems integrator on critical national infrastructure for 20 years, and as a security professional for nearly a decade I seldom get asked for certificates, but I do like to continue my professional development, and we all have something to learn. At the end of 2019 I set myself the goal of achieving ISA62443 Expert status by the end of 2020, and it started well with my completing the Fundamentals Specialist in December 2019, but then the pandemic struck and face to face courses were stopped. It is true that I could have completed the online courses, but from experience I get more out of the interactions with the other course delegates than I do from the actual course, so I had to wait until October 2022 to get the opportunity to attend the fast track course in Eindhoven and then sit the exams in November and December.
I am pleased to be able to say I have been awarded the ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity Expert certificate. To be honest this was more about positive reinforcement than anything else, I am working to this standard every day, but I did learn a few tips about efficiency in assessment and delivering risk assessment workshops.
I am not certain what the next training or certificate will be, I am reluctant to get associated with a specific vendor, but we are constantly being asked about the Internet of Things and getting data into the cloud, so perhaps something in the Microsoft Azure space.
